A fascinating bouquet with extremely interesting complex highlights of toasted oak, sweet black cherries, vanilla, & chocolate. The mouth flavors are generous with rich, ripe, chewy soft tannins, & highly extracted amounts of cherry. Big and fruit forward, this wine will appeal to even the most die hard Cabernet drinker.

Tasting Notes

1999 was characterized by consistently favorable grape ripening conditions. The wine was barrel aged from December 1999 until November 2001 for a total of 23 months in new French & American Oak. The French oak imparts a spicy aroma while the American oak contributes a sweet (vanilla) mid-palate. The uniqueness of Strata’s virgin soil, carefully controlled grape growing and wine making, has given the perfect flavor to our 1999 Merlot. We have created a lush wine with great character.
